How you can pray for us!

One of the best ways you can support us is through prayer. I am going to post some daily activities & scriptures that we will be praying for and we ask that you join us!

Thursday, May 13th, 2010 – Traveling mercies/ Arrive in Guatemala City

Pray against any anxiety and for peace for our team. Pray for a spirit of unity as we fix our eyes on Christ, the reason for and by which we even go. Pray that we would operate as one body – the body of Christ – seeking opportunities to witness (on the plane) and encourage each other. Please also pray for our security and protection.

  • But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. – John 15:26-27
  • For just as the body is one and has many members and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one spirit we were all baptized into one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and we all were made to drink of one Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:1-3

Friday, May 14th, 2010 – Meeting the kids @ Fundaniños/ Meeting Firefighters @ Station #69

Pray for humility among the team. Pray that we might understand the lives and culture of the people we will meet today. Pray that we might truly die to ourselves daily. Pray that in our time spent with them that they will see a mirroring of the gospel through our love and service to them, and ultimately Christ, and not “Americans”!

  • But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I could everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him. – Philippians 3:7-9
  • They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent me. – John 17:8
  • Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. – John 7:38

Saturday, May 15th, 2010 – Working @ Fire Station # 69 (Responding to emergency calls & special projects)

Pray for our health & safety as we work. Pray for relationships that will be established between our team and the firefighters in Guatemala City.  Please pray that the Holy Spirit might already be stirring in their hearts in preparation for what the Lord is going to do through our brief visit their. That we will be an encouragement to them and to how they are serving their community.

  • For Christ’s love compels us….   -2 Corinthians 5:14

  • For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ, as Lord, and ourselves as our servant’s for Jesus’ sake. – 2 Corinthians 4:5

Sunday, May 16th, 2010 – Attending church @ Casa de Libertad & Sabbath with church family.

Pray that we would have a fruitful time for praising and worshiping the Lord. Thanking Him for all that He has done, and all that he will do. That he will restore us and prepare us through praise, worship, fellowship, rest & breaking bread with our brothers & sisters in Guatemala for the upcoming week.

  • “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4

  • “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” – Exodus 20:8

Monday, May 17th – 20th, 2010 – Training firefighters, responding to emergency calls & special projects in Guatemala City @ Station #69

We want to beg the Lord for humility here. We are not the best and brightest firefighters in the world because we are from the US. These men are incredibly brave and gifted at what they do to serve their communities. The topics we will cover have been specifically asked for by the firefighters and we look forward to teaching them as well as learning from them as well.

  • For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. – Matthew 23:12
  • So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. – 1 Corinthians 3:7
  • Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – 1 Peter 5:5
  • My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip or to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. – Psalm 121:2-3
  • will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. – Proverbs 3:23
  • For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in You. – Psalm 84:11-12

While these skills and life saving techniques are very important we hope and pray that we mirror the gospel in what we do in our profession, but also in our lives. Pray for divine appointments and opportunities to share the gospel.

  • How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:14-15,17
  • But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been save. -Ephesians 2:4-5

Pray for safety as we respond to emergencies, as we hold training classes for 25 firefighters daily. We will be speaking to public schools & local orphanages about fire safety! Pray for the local church as they engage their community starting with the local fire station.

  • …building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear.. – Jude 1:20-23
  • Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.    -John 15:13

Friday, May 21st, 2010 – Cooking special breakfast @ Fundaninos/ Saying good-bye to kids & staff/ Traveling mercies to Antigua.

Although we will not spend a great deal of time with the kids @ Fundaninos this trip, I know that the Lord is going to richly bless the time we do have. Saying goodbye to these kiddos is always hard. Some of us have already began to cultivate relationships with them from previous trips. They constantly see people come and go from their lives. Pray that the Lord pursues their hearts through the love of the staff & teachers there.

  • Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.  -Psalm 68:5
  • I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. – John 14:18

  • Learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. – Isaiah 1:17
  • For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.         -Psalm 91:11-12

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 – Team debrief & sabbath in Antigua.

Pray for continued team unity as we praise the Lord for what He has done. Pray that as we exalt Him, that the Lord would use these times to strengthen us and encourage us & restore us. Pray that we would rest well..and honor the the sabbath. That we would fill our time here with things that stir our affections for Christ in worship and thanks to Him.

  • Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. – Psalm 103:1-5
  • The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield it’s harvest.        -Psalm 85:12

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 – Early AM departure for the airport & arrival back home!

Pray for the team and for the Guatemalans however the Lord leads you. Pray that what was planted may be sealed by the Holy Spirit. Pray that we might have patience in seeing fruit from our trip. Pray that we might walk obediently in the ways of the Lord as we return home.

  • Be patient, then brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.             – James 5:7
  • Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. – 1 Samuel 15:22
